Everything You Need to Know About Baby-Led Weaning (BLW) and Support
What is Baby-Led Weaning (BLW)?
Baby-Led Weaning (BLW) is an approach to introducing solid foods to infants that allows them to self-feed from the beginning of their weaning journey. Instead of spoon-feeding purees, parents offer whole pieces of food that babies can grasp, explore, and eat at their own pace. This method encourages independence and helps develop motor skills.
Benefits of Baby-Led Weaning
Encourages Self-Feeding: Babies learn to feed themselves, promoting independence.
Improves Motor Skills: Handling food helps develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Variety of Textures and Flavors: Babies are exposed to different tastes and textures, which can lead to a more adventurous palate.
Promotes Healthy Eating Habits: Early exposure to a variety of foods may encourage lifelong healthy eating habits.
Reduces Mealtime Stress: Babies learn to listen to their hunger cues, which can create a more relaxed mealtime atmosphere.
